In order to attempt to target the market I really want to shoot for I’ve decided to update a few things, can a few projects and generally make a better plan for the future.
Shortly, jclossphoto.wordpress.com will become defunct. I will probably redirect it to this host. I had a good time starting with my free wordpress page, and I was super pumped about the 52 weeks project. I’m still doing it, barely, but I’m not posting on it anymore.
I’ve decided that I’d like to run an informational page as well as a portfolio page. Somewhere to put tips, hints, articles, photography community feedback and whatnot. That idea isn’t finalized yet, but it’s in the works. This site will continue to function as it is, with a constantly updated portfolio of the images I’ve been creating – specifically tailored in the near future to represent what I want to do more of.
Of course, my facebook page will continue to be my main community and customer interaction – I’ll keep posting updates, teasers and statuses there. Feel free to follow, like and share my work – the more my community supports me, the more awesome stuff I can create.
If you follow me on facebook, you know I recently ran a contest giving away a free portrait shoot to a lucky entrant. The contest winner was Michelle Munch – and we’ve already sat down to have a consultation.
Our shoot is scheduled for tonight, so I’m quite excited. I really want to give her some awesome shots that make her feel great, so my mind is very occupied while I’m working my IT day job.
I’ll post a couple of teasers in the next couple days on Facebook as long as all goes well with tonights shoot. (ie. it doesn’t get cancelled for pouring rain or something!)
So far the day is nice and the forest fires in the vicinity have a slight positive aspect of filling the air with particulate, creating very dramatic evening light which has been a joy to work with lately – there’s a silver lining to every cloud I guess!
Life has been busy! A very cool photoshoot for a ladies vocal group called “Sweet Harmony” and a cool fashion style shoot for an acquaintance are highlights.
I’ll be putting up a couple new images tonight, so if you’ve been cursing the boring static-ness of my site, be happy!
I’ve been very busy subcontracting my services as a photographic assistant to another local photographer. Lots of fun shoots, some weddings, and some long days.
I’m catching up on my edits – finally taking things from my to-do list and moving them to to-done!
One of my next projects is batch resizing images for upload to this site to increase my portfolio depth.
Also – contest in the works. I haven’t figured out all the details yet, but the prize will likely be a free 1/2 hour personal photoshoot. I have a couple of fun locations I want to try.
I need your help. See – I’m really indecisive – I guess it’s part of being a Libra.
I’m entering the Photolife Emerging Photographer of the Year contest – open to Canadian photographers only. I’m going to need to submit 3 of my photographs for judging – they of course, should be my “best of the best”.
I’m thinking of using my photograph “Trust – Split Toned” as one of my submissions. “Frostflowers” has gotten good reviews as well, it’s my photograph that has been published in Snapixel Magazine.
I’m torn for what my 3rd choice should be. Any suggestions?
While you’re at it, feel free to suggest any of my other photographs for my first two submissions as well – these are not set in stone yet.

Trust and Frostflower
I’m glad you’re here. I’ve got some news to share, so read along and let me know what you think.
I’ve been sorting through my images, trying to come up with the ones that I want to put up on my portfolio. I don’t want ones that are too old, as I don’t want to “undersell” myself, nor do I only want to post the best, as I don’t want to “oversell” myself.
Accordingly, I think it’s best to let customers, visitors and fans choose which photos will make the cut. I’m going to be sponsoring a contest on that topic in the coming weeks, with the prize yet to be decided, but probably an amazing print, either gallery mounted or framed. (Let me know what you think the prize or prizes should be.)
This weekend had a couple of great experiences. On Saturday I photographed a couple of income properties for a local company. Some shots are going to be for portfolio work, and some are going to be used for before/after comparisons. On Sunday I did my first day of subcontracting to Northern Persona Photography – for an epic day! We did 14 half hour photo shoots on Sunday. Almost all of them were 1/2 hour, 2 took a whole hour. During the day we only got off schedule 10 minutes by the end, which is pretty darn good. Each one was exciting and different – the light was horrible, stark and bright nearly all day, but with some ingenuity, a reflector and some persistence we managed to get Tineke some great shots – I’m sure making lots of clients happy.
Lots of editing to do this week – So I should get to it. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy what’s here so far.
Just updated my front slideshow – images are now centering correctly on the browsers I’ve tested. (Firefox and IE).
New gallery images are up in the galleries. Layout is a bit rough at the moment, that will be fixed soon.
I will be announcing a contest on my facebook page soon. You can find the link in my publications section or over on the right hand sidebar – you can click the little “f” and it should take you right there.
Feel free to comment on this post and let me know what you think. I haven’t tested the commenting feature yet. You could be the first.
If you’re reading this, things are moving along in the correct direction.
This is the first post, in the page called updates. It is the first of many posts which will keep you up to date on what I have going on, what I’ve had published and where my photographs are being used.
Welcome to the site. I’m glad to have you here.
Stick with me through a few growing pains and stay to see what this becomes.
